George Boyter

WINNER of ‘A Brush with Fame’ Portrait Painting Challenge 2017

I come from Pittenweem, in the East Neuk of Fife. I studied Drawing and Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee under several well-known artists including Alberto Morrocco, James Morrison, Peter Collins and William Cadenhead.

Thereafter I embarked on an award-winning career as a creative director in advertising in London and as a lecturer and Course Leader for the MA in Advertising at Bucks New Uni. I now live in Oxfordshire.

I studied watercolour under Alvaro Castagnet, the Uruguyan master and in September 2017 will be spending a week in Spain under the tutelage of Josefph Zbukvik, the world-renowned master of the watercolour medium.

I specialize in watercolour landscapes, and in addition life drawing, portraits and oils, and have completed several large commissions. I was appointed Artist-in-Residence for Berkley Care Group. I exhibit frequently.

Teaching Experience

I teach at the Phoenix Studios, Studley Green Arts Group, Princes Risborough Old Court House and Sydenham Old School Hall. I have a Certificate in Teaching for Higher Education from Bucks New Uni.

What are my courses for?

My courses are for beginners and also artists who feel they would benefit from a ‘re-charge’ in their technique. I concentrate on landscape, composition and fundamental watercolour techniques that will create pictures with mood and atmosphere. I also encompass how to incorporate people buildings and contemporary life.

What to expect

I do step by step demos of the 4 key stages of watercolour and cover how to choose your subject matter and create a dynamic composition.

“I think its important that sessions are fun and supportive.

I like to mentor and inspire students and make the most of their enthusiasm. Encouragement is vital.”
