This two day workshop in oils is a step to step guide on basic portraiture, exploring the exciting versatility of oil paint.

You will explore drawing basics, composition, technique, colour mixing & tone.

This course is intended for beginners with or without previous experience or for those wanting to return to painting, try a new medium or dip a toe into the world of portraiture.

Bring your own materials as listed below or I can supply them at a cost of £5 per day.

Nothing is more satisfying than capturing a realistic likeness.

What to bring

 

Oil paint :

Titanium white

Cadmium yellow

Ultramarine blue

Cadmium red

Ivory black

Some of these can be bought in sets which work out cheaper and they are often on offer online.

(Daler Rowney Georgian oil colour do sets).

 

A selection of short flat synthetic paint brushes suitable for oil or acrylic in a range of sizes from 2 - 12, also small synthetic brushes size 1 and 2

 

Canvas paper or board

E.g W&N canvas board 10” x 12” or bigger

Daler Rowney Georgian oil painting paper 14” x 10” thereabouts.

 

Medium - liquin

 

Couple of small empty glass jars

 

Disposable palettes - sold at all art stores

E.g Daler Rowney tear off palette for oils & acrylics

 

Baby wipes - Waitrose essential or equivalent

 

Good online suppliers are Jackson’s and Cass art.

Hobbycraft, The Range in Reading and also The Works sell a few art materials.

 

If you bring your own brushes you will need W&N Sansodor or Zest It which are both odourless mineral spirit used for cleaning brushes and thinning oil paint.
