An Introduction to Punch Needle Embroidery & Rug Hooking with Kelly WrightSunday
Sunday 29th September: 10am - 1.30pm
Hooking is all about texture and colour - it's a great way to make your own rugs, cushions, mats, bags and wall art. is easy to pick up (and very hard to put back down again!), so learning the basics properly is both fun and useful!
In this workshop I will get you off to a perfect start by giving you the lowdown on tools, materials and basic stitches. You will have the opportunity to try out different needles and yarns, stretch different types of cloth and try your hand at designing a successful pattern (ready-made patterns will also be available), by the end of the workshop you will have hooked your own simple 20cm x 20cm hemmed piece. You can use available designs or draft your own.
Materials are completely included in this workshop including Monk's cloth and hand-dyed yarns, rug wool and notions (needles, thread, scissors, pens, tape) for you to use in class and take home with you. You will also have the use of a frame, hoop and Oxford punch needle for during the class.
After we practice Oxford stitching methods for beautiful and durable punch needle furnishings, we will get to work hooking up a small piece. There will be time to demonstrate and practice finishing methods as well to give your work polish.
Materials and tools will be available for use for the course and may be purchased if you desire.
Please note that each class is 3.5 hours long and includes all materials.
