Start off 2021 on a joyfully creative foot! Â If you've ever wondered about Life Drawing and wanted to give it a go but just never knew how to even start? Then we're the girls for you!Â
We love Life Drawing at the HSA, we really believe it to be the bedrock of nearly ALL artistic practice - if you can draw a human, you can pretty much draw anything! Â We also know how daunting it can seem - you may have seen our Unguided Life Drawing sessions, with all the incredible models we've been drawing, but couldn't join in beause you didn't know how. Â Well, we think it's time to give you the right tools!!
We've put our heads together and designed a spectacular workshop including: an Artists Starter Kit and a brilliantly inspiring two and a half hour class that will set you off in very much the right direction. You'll be getting the benefit of 2 of the HSA's experienced and enthusiastic Life Drawing tutors - Â Jo Harris & Holly Surplice. Both tutors have their own differing strengths which compliment each other brilliantly and you'll be getting the benefit of this fantastic, creative ying and yang. The class has been put together so that in the first half you'll be getting a crash course in all the juicy tips, tricks and know-how of getting the figure down on the page confidently. Â This will be followed by the second half, filled with colour, movement and artistic freedom!
Your Artist's Kit will be posted to you (or collection can be arranged) in plenty of time for your session and will include some of our favourite, quallity drawing materials.  As if that wasn't enough, we're including a code (worth £10) which entitles you to come and join in on one of our glorious and hugley popular Online Unguided Life Drawing sessions, after you've found your feet with us.Â
Price £55, includes: A hugely fun, inspring and information-packed 2.5hr online group Life Drawing class, with TWO experienced, working artists and tutors; A fantastic, comprehensive, drawing kit filled with quality, carefully chosen, creative materials (including a sketchbook!) to get you started on the right track; AND a voucher to enjoy a free Online Unguided Life Drawing session (worth £10) AND free P&P!
UK postage is included in the price. If you are requiring postage to outside the UK please contact us first so that we can confirm if this is possible or not.Â
What to expect:
On the day, you'll log onto Zoom using the link that will be emailed to you. You'll then get to enjoy two and a half whole hours of fantastic creative learning, online, with other Life Drawing newbies, just like you. It's always a fun and relaxed atmosphere and a real feeling of all being in it together!
For the first hour, Jo will give you a concise introduction on how to get to grips with the basics of drawing the figure - how to plot it on the page, how to loosen up and how to render all the right shapes in proportion. You'll be viewing Jo's working example and then drawing from a LIVE Â female Life Model. Jo will do her best to demistify the art of drawing the figure and give you plenty of tips and tricks along the way from her vault of extensive life-drawing knowledge!
Then there will be a break where you can catch your breath, have a chat, (have a kitkat) before setting off on the second glorious part of this session, where Holly will re-energise you with a different take on Life Drawing, observing movement and using colour! In this section of the class, you'll get a chance to break out of the confines of convention and have a look at how to use different materials to make interesting and descriptive marks on the page. Â This half is all about fun, exploration and using your instincts to draw the model!
What else will you need?
We would like to encourage you to work with nice fluid drawing movements which is much easier to do on a larger scale. Please could you equip yourself with some large sheets of cartridge paper, or preferably a sketchbook of size A3 or above - this needn't be expensive and can be bought from most online Art Suppliers (click on the links below for their website):
Please note, if you're using loose sheets of A3, you'll need a drawing board - this can be the back of a tray, a large piece of strong cardboard or anything hard you can lean your A3 sheet of paper on. Â The sketchbooks we provide will be A5 and only suitable for future drawing and not for this particular session.
When: Sat 16th January 2021, 10am start (UK time)
Duration: 2.5 hours
Designed for adults - suitable for 16-18 at the parent's discretion. If you have a teen working towards Art A-levels or Portfolio then this would be a great introduction for them also. Please contact us if you are booking for someone in this position.
