Using over 25 years of artistic experience, I've put together a glorious, in-person, SUMMER SCHOOL of WORKSHOPS - perfect for anyone wanting to know the basics of different art techniques, improve on rusty skills or for someone who just enjoys creating with other people in a friendly, artistic environment.
These sessions are a way for me to pass on a lifetime of artistic knowledge & let my students experiment and gain a long-lasting confidence in a range of different creative materials and methods.
During this Drawing Faces - how to catch a likeness Workshop you’ll be learning so much more than you'll expect to!
We'll spend the morning practising the individual features, simplifying and deconstructing the myth that drawing faces is 'hard' - we will explore the basics: the structure of the face, how to put all the 'pieces' together and what to look for that makes a face unique. In the afternoon, we will put all our knowledge to good practice by drawing from chosen references with different materials and paper - we will be concentrating on finding the parts of the face that really bring out the likeness of our subject matter.
You will end the day bursting with new information, a completely new understanding of how fun this medium is to work with and an excitement for the next drawing you're going to make!
This course welcomes all levels of adult student (18+), great for first-time artists, 'rusty' artists and accomplished artists alike. There's no need to bring anything - all materials are provided.
Laurel Studio is small (but perfectly formed) which means the amount of students is capped at 6 per class - this may mean that these sessions sell out fairly quickly, please be aware of this when thinking about booking your space 😊
Please note: it's normal for a student to want to bring a photo of a loved one to draw - however, as means as it sounds, I will be providing everyone with a neutral face to draw for a number of reasons:
Detail, backround, lighting and clarity matter a LOT when you're drawing a portrait - for a beginner session, I prefer to provide an image I know works well with the techniques you'll be learning on the day.
Pressure of performance is an absolute creative locked door - if you know and love a face well and you attempt to draw it and come up with anything less than perfect, you are quite likely to be disheartened at the first hurdle. I really don't recommmend it. These things can build up in our mind when we're doing a drawing and it can completely ruin the experience for us, not to mention stop any real progression in its tracks.
Places are non-refundable and non-transferable.
