Xmas Printmaking EXTRAVAGANZA Workshop

Join me for this utterly joyful Christmas themed Printmaking extravaganza, in my cozy Art Studio in Henley on Thames - this Workshop is designed for adult Beginners, but all levels most welcome.

You can do a whole day, just a morning session, or just an afternoon session, whatever suits you:

In the morning, we'll be spending a glorious 3 hours designing your very own Festive-themed  linocut stamps - I'll be on hand with lots of guidance and a treasure trove of designs to inspire you (if you'd like them).  Once you've decided on a design and drawn it out, we can transfer it on to the blank stamp and start carving out your designs.  The next step is to spend some time experimenting with different inks, paper and printing methods to see what works best for you - which will then get you all set up and ready to then make an endless stack of your very own, personalised Christmas cards, tags and even wrapping paper!

Each student will be given their own pack of blank cards, tags and paper to print on (either at the studio or when they get home later).

After lunch, in the afternoon we'll be looking at designing and carving a LinoCut stamp to make a selection of hand-printed Balsarwood Christmas Decorations - I also have some particularly beautiful wood-carved, block printing stamps that you can play with to get a good variety of different designs and decorations to go home with.  We can have a look at a more natural effect, leaving the decoration as it is (in it's natural wood state) or painting them up, even varnishing them at the end to get them shiny and light-catching in the twinkle of those Christmas Tree lights.

The benefits of making a day of it:

Doing the whole day will allow you to further experment with what you've made in the morning and incorporate your designs into all options - any linocuts you made in the morning could translate well into decorations and any you make in the afternoon could translate really well with your Festive Greetings cards and Wrapping paper!  You're certainly getting more bang for your buck by attending both, but, as I mentioned before and in case the whole day doesn't work for you, you can attend either the morning or afternoon session.  The other good news is that these sessions are being repeated over 3 weeks, so it may be that you can catch up with one you missed on another date!

Sat 18th Nov: 10am-5.30pm (1 day workshop) or: 10am-1pm (Christmas cards, tags, wrapping paper. Followed by 2.30pm-5.30pm (Hand-printed Decorations).

Sat 25th Nov: 10am-5.30pm (1 day workshop) or: 10am-1pm (Christmas cards, tags, wrapping paper. Followed by 2.30pm-5.30pm (Hand-printed Decorations).

Sat 2nd Dec: 10am-5.30pm (1 day workshop) or: 10am-1pm (Christmas cards, tags, wrapping paper. Followed by 2.30pm-5.30pm (Hand-printed Decorations).

Cost:

£48 for a morning or afternoon session

£90 for the full day Workshop

What you get on the day:

The price of these joyous Workshops include either a pack of blank cards, tags & wrapping paper / a good selection of blank balsar wood decorations for you to play with and print on / or all of those lovely things (depending on which option you choose).  You will also get the use of all the printmaking tools, presses, inks, paper, card etc. here at the studio, full and attentive tuition, one-to-one guidance, snacks, tea & coffee and such a LOT of enthusiasm to get you in a glorious Chrismas headspace.

Class size: 

My studio is small (but perfectly formed) which means there's a limit of 6 students at any one time.  The bad news about that is that spaces are limited and may get snapped up quickly, the GOOD news is that you will get far more individual attention, use of materials and less time to queue for using any of the presses (whoop!).

Age Limit:

As this method involves the use of extremely sharp tools, my usual age limit of 14+ applies, anyone aged between 14 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult who is also taking part in the workshop.

What else do you need to know?

Please wear suitable clothing, that you don’t mind getting ink on.  Sadly lunch won't be provided so please do bring a packed lunch, or you can pop into town at lunchtime or Tescos nearby.
