A very warm Welcome to:

RUN BY

JO HARRIS

ARTIST, TUTOR & MENTOR

Hi, I've been running Henley's very own Art School for a rather grand 10 years now and in that time a glorious community of students, artists and tutors have all come together, to create art, both under our beautiful Art School roof as well as tuning in online from all over the world. Many students have come along as a hobby and have now gone on to pursue creative Degrees and M.A.'s as a result of being inspired by a Workshop, a Course or 1:1 sessions - surely one of the GREATEST compliments a tutor can receive! In Spring 2022, after 2 years of valiant efforts to keep afloat financially, the Covid lockdowns initiated a move from our well-loved studio on Hart St. to our smaller but even MORE wonderful studio in Newtown Gardens.  This has meant smaller classes, but as luck would have it, that has only improved the quality of the classes!

A little less Tuition for a while...

From Spring 2025 - Spring 2026 there will be a few more changes which will result in a lot less classes. Since the move to the smaller studio, I have become the main tutor (apart from the odd guest appearance!), which I have LOVED, but sadly it has taken up a lot of my time and my own Art Practice has become a little woeful and neglected as a result.  As an Artist first and tutor second, this has been terrible for my mental health - SO - I'm going to be taking this time to rebuild and nourish my own practice - which in the long run will result in a much better teaching output from me!  I will also be filming a course of online classes for anyone missing the tuition, but that probably won't be happening until late Summer - watch this space!

In the Meantime...

But I won't be doing a complete disappearing act - I will still be offering a limited amount of 1:1 tuition spots (more about that here) as well as monthly unguided Life Drawing sessions at Zizzi's (more about that here) and bi-monthly Workshops. If you'd like to be kept in the loop of any upcoming Workshops or Events, sign up to the mailing list here.

"I just wanted to thank you again for a great workshop. You may have noticed that I wandered around & chatted to everyone in the morning & without exception they all said how much they were enjoying just playing with colour & not having to worry about the end result. A really freeing experience. I’ve always wanted to loosen up but  I’m a bit of a control freak, so I'm going to have to work at this, but it’s given me a good start!"

Gill Griffith

............................

"Not drawn since high school and now in my 60’s. Thank you, loved every minute - back to drawing albeit rusty!"

Jane Jennings

............................

"Oh my goodness, Henley School of Art has provided me with the most wonderful afternoon of Lino cut and printing. Jo is the most wonderful and inspirational teacher - I always come away from a lesson with her and have learned a new skill properly and feeling inspired and my cup has been filled up again. Can’t wait for the next time!"

Sam Symons

............................

"Jo is an amazing artist and a fantastic teacher. She’s really knowledgeable about materials and techniques and I’ve loved all of the courses I’ve been on. She really has encouraged me to keep going and I thoroughly recommend the art school."

Sheridan Lewis

............................

"I have just finished the 10 week creative course and I loved every minute of it. We learnt so many techniques - playing creatively with familiar media and learning how to use unfamiliar ones. I’ve signed up to do the same course again next term. Jo is a treasure trove of artistic knowledge and creativity. I couldn’t recommend the Henley School of Art any more highly."

Rosie Locke

"I've been lucky enough to attend many sessions at the Henley School of Art. I've learned a huge amount and always enjoy my time there. Jo is an excellent tutor and host. Very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable and passionate about art.

If you've been tempted to pick up a brush or a pen but keep putting it off...give Henley School of Art a go!"
