Kelly Wright

Kelly Wright grew up in northern New Jersey and on a farm in western Missouri, where she learned how to hook and braid rugs (not to mention shear a sheep!) at an early age.

After earning her B.A. from NYU in 1990, she received a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Berlin, Germany, where she completed an M.A. and an M.B.A.  In 2012 she started her company, D.K. Wright Construction, to offer rug-making instruction, supplies and patterns to the European market. She likes to think of her company as a way to combine technical skills with artistic expression, to establish punchneedle rug hooking, traditional rug hooking, rug braiding and wool applique as an accepted part of European needlework and to make people happy by giving them a chance to fill their homes and hearts with warmth, colour and wool! She is known for her illustrative style and her ability to combine multiple techniques.

She has written several instructional pamphlets and her first book of punchneedle projects is scheduled to come out with Stiebner publishing in early 2019. She is a member of ATHA and TIGHR.

Kelly runs a studio and online store outside of Munich, Germany specialising in wool, wool fabric and rug making supplies.
Interest in punch needle has increased so much that she became a certified Oxford Punch Needle Rug Hooking instructor in 2018 and also has a line of hand-dyed rug wool which she dyes in her studio.

She lives with her family (and collie) in view of the alps south of Munich.
