Ruth Martin - Cucumber Wood Candles

Hi, I’m Ruth from Cucumber Wood Candles – I hand-pour candles in small batches using simply natural soy wax and essential oils. Cucumber Wood is an ancient woodland in Caversham, Berkshire, near my home. I first discovered it on a vintage map and now its one of my favourite places.
Being part of the community is important to me, I stock a variety of local stores, including Tiny Gallery in Henley and I enjoy being part of a network of makers in the area. In the lead up to Christmas you will find me at various markets, which are are great chance for me to meet my customers and find out what they like! At other times, I am in my workshop at Field & Hawken in Reading, making candles and drinking tea! I live with my husband and 3 children and a menagerie of their animals!
Candle-making since 2016, I am passionate about creating all-natural candles that are free from petroleum based wax and synthetic fragrance. I love creating new and seasonal blends, from zingy scents that will put a spring in your step to soothing aromas to bring calm at the end of a busy day.
I love sourcing perfect containers and designing beautiful labels so your candles look as natural and gorgeous as they smell. Caring for the environment is important to me, all the containers used on the course can be re-purposed, recycled or reused for candles.
